Jayden

Gaming is often seen as entertainment, but for some children, it becomes something far more meaningful. For Jayden, a 15-year-old from Cape Cod, gaming helped him cope with nearly a year spent at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Jayden was facing serious complications from sickle cell disease and a rare lung condition. His treatment required intensive gene replacement therapy, long hospital stays, and months of recovery. During that time, isolation and uncertainty were a daily reality.

How Gaming Supports Emotional Well-Being

Extended hospital stays can take a toll on a child’s mental health. Gaming helped Jayden by providing:

• A sense of normalcy during treatment
• Mental escape from pain and stress
• A way to stay engaged and connected

The Role of Child’s Play Charity

Child’s Play Charity supports pediatric hospitals by providing gaming equipment and programs designed to help children cope with illness, pain, and long hospital stays.

With support from the charity and hospital staff, gaming became a shared experience for Jayden. A gaming technology specialist introduced gaming as a way to connect—sitting together, playing, and talking casually. Over time, gaming became a therapeutic tool that helped Jayden manage anxiety and feel less alone.

From Recovery to Creativity

As Jayden’s health improved, his confidence grew. He began talking about the future—building a PC, streaming, and creating content of his own.

That’s where MSI, a global PC hardware and gaming technology company, stepped in. With MSI’s support, Jayden built his first PC from the ground up, learning how each component worked and gaining hands-on experience with gaming technology.

The experience was about more than hardware. It marked a turning point—celebrating resilience, growth, and forward momentum.

Today, gaming represents a possibility for Jayden. What began as a way to get through the hardest days in the hospital has become a source of creativity, connection, and hope.

Together, Child’s Play Charity and MSI demonstrate how gaming technology, when used with purpose, can support healing and emotional well-being for children facing serious medical challenges.
