Nowadays we can find gaming laptops equipped with 300Hz display. You might wonder, do we really need 300Hz display? How does it improve your gaming experience?
Let's find out!
300Hz display - no more dilemma between input lag and screen tearing
There are two common issues that can affect your gaming experience: screen tearing and input lag.
To eliminate the screen tearing, you will have to enable display and GPU sync technologies, however, you get input lags.
In the old days, there has no perfect solution, you have to choose either to reduce input lag, or screen tearing, but with the new 300Hz refresh rate display, you can enjoy the minimum input lag experience without suffering from screen tearing.
1. Screen Tearing
Every gamer experiences screen tearing while GPU renders much higher frames per second than display can handle.
For instance, you are playing CS:GO on a 60Hz display while your GPU renders about 100 frames per second(fps), the screen will tear while you move fast in the game.

This is caused by the inconsistency between GPU frame output timing and display refresh timing.
How about the traditional solution? Make them consistent, that’s how V-Sync, G-Sync, FreeSync works, or manually cap the game fps limit to 60.
2. Input lag
However, the sync technologies are not the perfect aid. You will feel the input lag when you turn them on, especially V-Sync. Moreover, they limit your powerful GPU performance output to sync display refresh timing. As a result, it does not render more frames than your display refresh rate, if you are playing CS:GO on a 60Hz display, you will get 60 fps only, it is a waste of your GPU performance potential!

If you turn V-Sync off, input lag becomes shorter but the screen tearing comes back.

Solution: 300 Hz display
Is there any other better solution? Here comes the 300Hz display that will solve the problem of both screen tearing and the input lag. The best thing is, it unleashes the full potential of your GPU performance.
The 300Hz refresh rate means every cycle of display refresh only takes only 3.3ms, the frames rendered from GPU can match with the display refresh cycle mostly and shows barely noticeable screen tearing, which brings you a gaming experience that combines both advantages of Sync-on and Sync-off - you won’t feel the screen tearing while enjoying the game with lowest input lag.

Since sync technologies is not used on 300Hz display to eliminate screen tearing, you will have the least input lag possible and GPU performing at its maximum state, squeezing every drop of juice out from it.
Choose the specification that able to fully utilize 300Hz display
If you are considering to own a laptop that has a 300Hz display, make sure the laptop has the best CPU and GPU in order to render highest frame per second with graphic setting as high as possible. You wouldn’t want to have a 300Hz display with mid or low-end CPU and GPU since they might only be able to render low fps at certain 3A games and wasting the advantage of the high refresh rate.
